1991 Graduates:
*** Mark Bloomquist says 'Hi' to the old gang.
1987 Graduates:
*** Matt Martin (B.S.), writes: I graduated in December 1987, landing in Houston shortly thereafter. I worked for Anadarko Petroleum for 15 years and Sterling Energy for 3 years. I now work for Newfield Exploration Company as a geophysicist in their Deepwater Gulf of Mexico group. In my spare time, I earned my M.S. in geology from the University of Houston (1997). My wife, Kim, and I stay busy with our two kids: Jordan (16) and Noah (5)
Even though I have moved over to the "dark arts" (geophysics), I still remember the rocks and have great memories of SFA Geology, such as: Dr. Gobel yelling at me on "ze outcrop", freezing to death on the roadside in Oklahoma with my Jacob's staff, all-nighters in the Optics lab, Dr. Ledger's mineralogy class, cursing my clogged Kroy pen, almost dying in the 115 degree heat at Well Creek Graben at field camp [just outside Big Bend Park], Dr. Shore's obsession with pencil lineations, not showering for a week while camped in the Quitman Mountains, and Dr. Nielson making me re-do a map at field camp.
Great memories? YOU BET! I would not trade my SFA geology degree for anything -- it has served me very well!
