Hello from Dusty! I received my B.Sc. in Geology from Stephen F. Austin State University in May of 2001. By far my most memorable times at SFA were during Summer Field Camp. It was loads of work and tons of fun - and it brings everything you learn in the classroom into a much clearer understanding.
Immediately following my graduation I went to work for HES Sperry-Sun Drilling Services as a Surface Data Logger in the Gulf of Mexico. My main responsibilities were to accurately log and describe the cuttings returning up the borehole, and to communicate with all operating personnel the trends in pore pressure and other dynamics of the borehole. Basically, I was an on-site geologist for the company that was operating the rig. I also monitored drilling parameters to keep operations running smoothly and cost efficiently.
While working for Sperry-Sun I met the woman who would eventually become my wife. Her name was Cory Oliver and she lived in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. We dated for just under one year before I asked her to marry me and then I quickly moved to be with her in Calgary. (Here's a link to more info about our wedding: http://www.theknot.com/members/CorinneOliver&DustyBaldree) My original intentions were to earn a Master's Degree in GIS from the University of Calgary, but money got tight and we really needed to buy a house. Currently I've just returned from our Honeymoon with some possible positions as a Junior Geologist with a few Oil Trust Companies located here in Calgary.
Life has been very good I must say. I've been able to do plenty of downhill and cross-country skiing, hiking, camping, mountain biking, off-roading, ice and rock climbing, and canoeing. I have no reason to complain about the doors that my geology degree from SFA opened for me! Wouldn't you agree??
Cheers and Best Wishes!
Dusty
