Field Trip Information

Our last mapping project was in the Quaternary glacial morraines of the La Sal Mountains in southeastern Utah. Click on a picture to enlarge it.

The scenery was beautiful in the mountains. It was cool and green, even at the end of June. We hiked up a rock glacier and crossed Brumley Creek several times during the mapping project.

As we hiked along, we came across snow! We took some time out to play in the snow and have a snowball fight.

There was an ice bridge that covered part of the river. The ground that we covered was very steep and treacherous with fallen trees and unstable rocks.

On the last day of mapping, we came across a beautiful waterfall. We spent some time eating lunch and resting by the creek.

A few students stayed at the campsite while the rest went down to Moab to begin drafting the maps. A deer family came to visit them.
