We stopped by the Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona to do some sight-seeing. Click on a picture to enlarge it.

Before entering the park, we had a lot of fun in the parking lot playing on the concrete dinosaurs, sitting on petrified logs, looking at the mounds of geodes in the gift shop, watching Dr Nielson nap, telling the employees about the Texas flag flying upside-down, and changing a tire on the van.

These ancient trees were knocked down and carried by rivers, where they were turned into petrified wood by volcanic deposits falling into the water and onto the logs. The National Park is speculated to be a log jam.

|

|
|
|
|
After we finished touring the Petrified Forest, we drove through part of the Painted Desert.
