Field Trip Information

Ernst Tinaja is a section of Big Bend National Park where the limestone has been folded and refolded and eaten away. Click on a picture to enlarge it.

West of Van Horn on I-10 there are some beautiful outcrops of metamorphosed, tilted, and very old rocks.

On the way to Carlsbad Caverns from the Guadalupe Mountains we stopped at a gypsum outcrop that had incredible crenulations throughout it, as well as a cave.

This is the view from the top of the scenic overlook in Davis Mountains State Park.

We stopped at a rest stop with a great view of El Capitan and the Guadalupe Mountains. Guadalupe Peak, the highest point in Texas, is hidden behind El Capitan.
Big file.
